Meal Plans/ Frequently Asked Questions

Meal Plans - Frequently Asked Questions

How Does My Meal Plan Work?

Your DU Student ID Card will be loaded with whatever Meal Plan or FLEX amount you select.  Your ID Card will be used to gain dining access and for making coffee, convenience and food purchases across campus.
You will need to present your card for service.  Your ID card is non-transferable.

Where Can I Use My Meal Plan?

Regardless of which Meal Plan or BLOCK Plan you are on your best value will always be eating at The Hogan Dining Center for it's all-you-care-to-eat meals.

We also offer a Meal Exchange Program to give you 3 more dining choices on campus.
A daily 'Meal Exchange' ensures you'll find a meal that fits without going over.  You can build your own meal whenever you wish but if you go over the Cash Exchange for that meal you will need to pay the difference with FLEX, Cash or Credit Card. (Cash Exchange Breakfast $3.65; Lunch $4.95; Dinner $5.65).
- Two of these exchange locatons are in the Duquesne Union,  where you can exchange any meal at The Off Ramp or Options Food Court.
-
Another feature is our Box To Go at The Short Stop C-Store - Never miss a meal!  When you are on the go use your Meal Exchange for a boxed breakfast, lunch or dinner to go!

If you have FLEX, feel 'free to move about the campus'.  FLEX can be used at any dining, convenience or coffee shop location across campus*.  FLEX carries from the Fall to the Spring but not from academic year to year.  It's convenient and hassle-free.  *FLEX is accepted in the evening at Starbucks - see store for details.  FLEX is not accepted at The RedRing Restaurant.

What if my FLEX runs low?

You can find out your FLEX balance from any cashier.  You can add FLEX at any time by phone, by mail or online.  FLEX carries from the fall to the spring but not from academic year to year.

How Do I Sign Up?

Living on Campus?  You will have to choose the 19, 14 or 10 Meal Plan.  Your Meal Plan contract is handled by the Office of Residence Life in Assumption Hall.

Commuting to Campus or Living in Brottier?  We have special packages designed for you!  A BLOCK plan or ALL FLEX Plan allows you to choose what meals and when you eat them throughout the semester.  It's nice insurance and you never have to worry about 'losing' a meal.  To sign up for a BLOCK Plan visit the Dining Office in Suite 333, Duquesne Union.

The All FLEX Plan is appealing for it's convenience and the 20% incentive on deposits of $350 or more is a real bonus. To sign up for FLEX or to add more to your Meal Plan call us, mail us or ADD FLEX ONLINE.

What is the Dining Room Conduct Policy?

Students are expected to act and dress appropriately for each meal. The Hogan Dining Center is a great place for eating and  socializing. Cutting in line is inappropriate behavior. Removing items from the dining facility (food, beverages, utensils, plates etc) is considered stealing.  Students caught stealing and/or using inappropriate behavior in the dining facilities may face disciplinary action by the University.

If I've paid for my meal plan, why can't I take what I want from the Dining Hall?

You can enjoy a variety of your  favorites at The Hogan Dining Center's all-you-care-to-eat with unlimited service during your meal.

Please take a piece of fresh fruit and/or one hand-held ice cream or dessert with you. But, we can not allow food and beverage containers to be brought into the dining areas to be filled and removed with food/drinks.

Monies spent replacing stolen items could otherwise be spent on food or student programming.  If theft becomes a problem we will have to make some changes (e.g. not allowing back packs into the dining center, eliminating the current take out policy, installing cameras / security).
